Transformation Study 2025

NTT DATA Business Solutions & Natuvion

Wouldn't it be interesting to know, ...

... what goals top international decision-makers wanted to achieve with their IT and SAP transformation projects last year – and which goals they actually achieved?

For the Transformation Study, we surveyed 909 CEOs, CIOs, IT managers and other transformation leaders from various industries and countries about their transformation projects.

The 2025 study thus once again provides well-founded, descriptive statements about transformation practice, from which developments and trends can be derived that help precisely those who still have their transformation ahead of them.

Gain exclusive insights into the corporate strategy perspective and technical aspects of the digital transformation of companies.

The study answers the following questions, among others:
(click plus)

What would have happened if the transformation hadn't been made?

We asked those responsible what they think would have happened if they had not tackled the transformation.

What is your acceptable window for business interruptions?

Every transformation involves business interruptions, some shorter, some longer. We asked the companies: “What is the maximum amount of business interruption during the transformation without generating noticeable effects?”

What role did the introduction and use of AI play in the transformation project?

This question saw one of the biggest shifts from 2024 to this year.

Was an ERP provider changed as part of the transformation?

In the context of transformation, companies are faced with the challenge of modernizing their business processes and technologies in order to better meet customer needs and thus remain competitive. The ERP system plays a central role here.

What did it cost?

The difference between what was originally planned for the transformation and the actual values is of great interest. In this chapter, we compare the financial component in particular.

How much longer did the project take than planned?

After asking the managers how much time they had planned for their IT transformation, it was logical to ask whether they had stayed on schedule.

Key Findings

Artificial intelligence will be the main driver of IT transformation in 2025

The change brought about by technological progress is now the central motive in companies for a digital transformation, rather than cost pressure or organizational measures. Especially in the DACH region, AI is now also considered a key technology. However, awareness alone is not enough for the successful realization and implementation of innovative technologies - a carefully planned strategy and appropriate skills are needed to put the plan into action.

Technology alone is not enough: transformation needs people, teams and agility

Transformation is a holistic and comprehensive process. Without stable teams, targeted skills development and modern project management, change cannot be managed effectively. In the DACH region, there is already a lack of available specialists internally during the planning phase. This is precisely where the experts at NTT DATA Business Solutions are the perfect partner, compensating for the lack of skills and providing project planning support with their extensive experience in transformation projects.

Data quality remains the biggest obstacle - and a key success factor

Insufficient data quality - especially in the brownfield approach - is a critical success factor in an IT transformation, often the result of a poor analysis of the existing IT landscape and data. Companies often underestimate the effort involved.

Cloud usage continues to rise - a platform for innovation and scalability

The cloud is used strategically to make new technologies available quickly and flexibly. Companies that view the cloud merely as an IT operating model are wasting innovation potential.

Norbert Rotter V2

The risks that companies take without IT transformation are measurable in business terms and highly relevant strategically: Cost explosion, performance problems and technological incompatibility. However, the different priorities depending on the size of the company, which become clear in the study results, also show that transformation cannot be a standard process. For us, this is not just a picture of the mood, but a guide. Transformation is an investment in future viability and competitive strength. If you don't actively shape it today, you will lose market share tomorrow.
